Wollaston Parish Council
The Parish Council is the most local tier of government in England — elected by Wollaston residents to enhance and protect the quality of village life.
About the council
Wollaston Parish Council is the first tier of local government — below North Northamptonshire Council (district) and the county. It is made up of elected councillors who serve the village voluntarily, supported by a paid clerk.
The council meets monthly (except August). The first 15 minutes of every meeting are open to the public — any resident can raise a matter of concern or interest. Meetings are listed on the meeting diary.
The council raises money through the precept — a small addition to your council tax bill — and uses it to fund local services and community projects.
What the Parish Council does
- Sets the Parish Council portion of the council tax precept
- Maintains village street lighting
- Maintains public footpaths, benches, litter bins and bus shelters
- Holds Wollaston Village Hall in trust for the residents of Wollaston
- Manages the village playing field and its equipment
- Supports and funds community improvement projects
- Acts as the voice of the village on local planning and community matters
What it doesn't do
- Collect refuse or recycling — that is North Northamptonshire Council
- Manage roads, potholes or highways — report via FixMyStreet Northamptonshire
- Handle housing, benefits or social care — contact North Northamptonshire Council
- Run the NHS, GP surgeries or health services
- Operate the schools — those are governed independently
- Enforce planning decisions — that power rests with North Northamptonshire Council
Meetings & Village Diary
Parish Council meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month (except August) at 7:00pm at the Oasis Building, High Street, Wollaston. Agendas are posted on the parish noticeboard and the council website in advance.
Public Participation
Residents are welcome to attend every Parish Council meeting. The first part of each meeting provides an opportunity for members of the public to raise questions, concerns or ideas affecting the village. Whether you have an issue to report, wish to support a local project or simply want to understand how decisions are made, you are encouraged to attend.
